ROBERSONVILLE, Martin County - A fire Wednesday morning at a home in Martin County has left that structure as a total loss, officials say.

Hamilton Fire Chief Travis Scott said crews were called to the fire on Spring Green Road near Robersonville around 7:20 a.m. Initial reports were that someone was trapped inside the home, so two passersby busted a window and entered the home, but no one was located.

Crews spent nearly 90 minutes one scene fighting the house fire, which had already completely engulfed the home when crews had arrived. Scott said the fire appears to have started in the kitchen area.

"I got within two miles of my house I saw the smoke and I knew it was serious," homeowner Arthur Harrison Jr. told NewsChannel 12.

He had been out running errands with his dog and had stopped off at a Waffle House for breakfast when a neighbor called to tell him his home was ablaze. A musician, Harrison Jr., lost nearly everything he had inside the home to fire damage.

"Just last night I used my best instrument I've got and I had put it by the front door and unfortunately it's gone," he said.

Harrison Jr. had recently moved out of the home and was preparing it for his son to live in.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
