Man shot after pointing gun at deputies is charged
GRENVILLE, Pitt County - A man who was shot in late April after pointing a gun at Pitt County Sheriff's Office deputies has been released from the hospital and charged for his actions.
William Harvey Perkins, Sr., 62, was charged on Wednesday with assault by pointing a gun and assault on a law enforcement officer. Upon his release from Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, Perkins was transported to Central Prison in Raleigh, which has the adequate medical facilities for Perkins' continued treatment.
The two deputies who were involved in Perkins' shooting, which occurred just before 8 p.m. on April 26 at 507 Jonathan Place in Greenville, were not injured. The State Bureau of Investigation is handling the inquiry into the shooting.
