Kinston, LENOIR COUNTY - One young athlete from Kinston is tearing up the track one race at the time. Cassidee Fraser is just seven-years-old but has been running since she was one, according to her mom, Cassie Fraser. She's headed to Larwence, Kansas with her entire family right now to compete in the 2017 National USATF Track and Field Championship. There, she will compete in three different events: the 100 m, 200m, and 400m races. "I like the 100 m because you go straight, the 200 because you curve and the 400 because you go all the way around," said Cassidee. She qualified to go to nationals after ranking regionally - she brought home the gold in both the 100 and 200 meter events and the silver in the 400 meter event, but only by a seventeen millisecond difference. Cassidee is a member of Run U Xpress Track and Field Club which is out of Wake Forest, but she also is coached my her dad, Vernon Fraser, who used to run track and field when he was younger. He also coaches DJ, Cassidee's younger brother--who's only 5, but it also an up and coming athlete in the sport. "I'm just really happy," said Vernon when asked about his daughter's success so far. Both Vernon and Cassie are excited to see where Cassidee will go with Track and Field. As for Cassidee, she just loves to run and spends all of her free time either running or watching other athletes that she admires.

Cassidee's family has started a Gofundme page to help her reach her dreams. if you would like to donate, you can do so here.
