Lenoir man arrested for attempted murder, string of armed robberies
KINSTON, Lenoir County - Kinston Police arrested a man Tuesday believed to be responsible for an attempted murder and four armed robberies.
Mark Murrell, 45, was located by police at his residence at 313 Stough Alley. He was taken into custody without incident and charged with attempted murder, four counts of felony armed robbery and five counts of possession of a firearm by a felon. He was booked into the Lenoir County Detention Center on a $2 million secured bond.
KPD spokesperson Woody Spencer said investigators found a silver revolver and a black ski mask at Murrell's home, which are believed to have been used by Murrell in the commission of his crimes.
The charges stem from armed robberies of a Circle K, a Dollar general, an RJ's Fuel Mart, and a Papa John's Pizza in Lenoir County between Aug. 7 and Sept. 1. The attempted murder charge stems from shots fired during the RJ's Fuel Mart armed robbery.
