Kinston Police Department is investigating a robbery and an attempted murder that happened on the same night.

The following is an excerpt of a press release sent to NewsChannel 12 about the incidents:

"On Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018, at approximately 2:52 PM, members of the Kinston Police Dept. responded to a shots fired call at Brothers #2 store, located at 325 East Bright St. in Kinston. Upon arrival, officers were told by a witness, multiple shots were fired toward the store from a 4 maroon 4 door vehicle. Investigators collected several shell casings from the scene. The suspect vehicle was last seen traveling west on Bright St.

On Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018, at approximately 10:06 PM, members of the Kinston Police Dept. responded to an armed robbery call at the USA Store located at 201 South Adkin St. in Kinston. Upon arrival officers were told 2 black males entered the store, one carrying a rifle, and demanded money. The clerk fired one shot at the 2 suspects. The suspects fled the scene in a silver vehicle."

Though both incidents were sent in the same release, officials did not specify whether they are connected.
