Kinston man is second suspect arrested in shooting incident

KINSTON, Lenoir County - A second man has been arrested in a shooting incident that happened in Kinston on March 12.

According to a press release from Kinston Police Public Information Officer Woody Spencer, Keyno Montel Coward was arrested on Tuesday at 10:13 a.m. by members of the Kinston Police Department, the United States Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office.

Coward was taken into custody after a traffic stop at the 1600 block of Stroud Avenue in Kinston. Coward was arrested for the March 12 shooting incident at 110 West Blount St. (J's Place). On Monday, Kinston Police arrested Christopher Deon Jones as a suspect in the same shooting. He was found hiding in a bathroom.

Coward was found with several baggies of heroin during his arrest. He's been charged with the following:

-- March 12, 2017 -- Shooting into an occupied vehicle, possession of a firearm by a felon, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill

-- March 21, 2017 -- Possession with intent to sell and deliver heroin, felony maintaining a vehicle for the distribution of a controlled substance

Coward was placed in the Lenoir County Jail under a $1.275 million secured bond. His first court appearance is Wednesday.
