Kenansville woman killed when truck driver runs red light
KENANSVILLE, Duplin County - A Kenansville woman is dead after her car was struck by a Freightliner semi truck that had run a red light, according to the State Highway Patrol.
The accident occurred at 6:18 a.m. at the intersection of NC 11 and NC 24, less than a quarter-mile east of Kenansville. According to SHP, the semi truck, driven by Carlton Butts, was traveling south on NC 11 when Butts ran a red light and hit the car of Shirleen Chambers, killing her.
Butts, a Campton resident, is charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and a red light violation.
Chambers, according to her Facebook page, was an employee of Vidant Duplin Hospital and was a graduate of East Duplin High School.
