Juvenile identified, charged with bomb threat of New Bern middle school

The New Bern Police Department has announced a juvenile has teen taken into custody and charged with making a bomb threat Thursday at Grover C. Fields Middle School in New Bern.

In a press release, New Bern Police said with the assistance of the Craven County Schools, the juvenile responsible was identified who communicated a bomb threat at Grover C. Fields Middle School on Thursday. The juvenile has been placed in secure custody and charged with making a false report concerning a destructive device.

“The spirit of cooperation that exists between the Police and school staff was vital in assuring the safety of students, teachers, and school staff allowing for the swift identification and apprehension of the person involved" said Chief Toussaint E. Summers Jr. in a press release " We will continue to work with the school system to implement measures to ensure the safety of all students and staff.”

New Bern Police gave an all clear update following the bomb threat Thursday at Grover C. Fields Middle Schoo. Police evacuated students and staff from the school Thursday morning after reports of a bomb threat. Students were taken to H.J. MacDonald Middle School to either be picked up by their parents or have arrangements mad for school buses to take them home. No injuries were reported.
