Joe Poletti named assistant superintendent of Carteret County Schools
MOREHEAD CITY, Carteret County - Joe Poletti has moved up from principal at East Carteret High School to assistant superintendent for Carteret County Schools.

Joe Poletti will serve as an assistant superintendent for the Carteret County School System. Mr. Poletti has been the principal of East Carteret High School. Former Assistant Superintendent Mat Bottoms was appointed as the school system's new superintendent last month, after current superintendent Dr. Dan Novey announced he was taking a position as an assistant professor at East Carolina University. Mr. Poletti's title will be Assistant Superintendent of Performance Management and Quality Improvement. Mr. Bottoms will continue to oversee the curriculum and instruction areas of the school system. Applications will be accepted for the principal's role at East Carteret High School over the next few weeks. Mr. Bottoms said more than 30 applications were received for the position and after numerous interviews were conducted it was clear to the committee that Mr. Poletti has the managerial skills needed for the position. Mr. Poletti will begin his new duties July 1. "Mr. Poletti possesses the skills needed for this role, and he knows our school system well," Mr. Bottoms said. "In this role, Mr. Poletti will manage, coordinate and provide leadership for system-wide efforts to ensure that student performance, teacher quality and fiscal responsibility programs are strengthen or developed. He has the skills to set data-driven priorities and put plans in place for improvements." Prior to joining East Carteret High School last July, Mr. Poletti was the principal of Croatan High School for six years. Prior to that he served as an assistant principal at three schools in the county, including East Carteret High School. He also served as the county's athletic director. Mr. Poletti worked seven years as Carteret County's Director of Technology and Media. Mr. Poletti's educational work experience includes 11 years as a high school English teacher, three years as an instructional technology facilitator, one year as a middle school technology teacher, as well as serving as an adjunct English instructor, an NC Teacher Academy trainer, a Technology Teacher on Loan, and an assistant director of the Center for Math, Science and Technology Education. Mr. Poletti has a master's in school administration and a master's in library science from East Carolina University. He has a master's in rhetoric from Catholic University, Washington, D.C., and a bachelor's in secondary education from Appalachian State University.
