Jacksonville Police continue search for shooting suspect
JACKSONVILLE, Onslow County - As of Thursday morning, officials in Jacksonville still hadn't reported an arrest in the shooting near the Jacksonville Mall.
The shooting was reported Tuesday night. It left damage to a parked car and a lot of curious onlookers but no known injuries, police said.
At approximately 8:10 p.m. Tuesday, Jacksonville Police said it sent officers to a shots fired call in the parking lot of the Jacksonville Mall, located at 375 Western Boulevard.
According to JPD, an individual was speaking to another person in a black Cadillac Escalade near the Starbucks when the individual in the parking lot began shooting at the man in the car. The shooter then ran from the area toward the intersection of Country Club Road, with the vehicle apparently following behind.
The shooter is described as a light-skinned black man, between 20 and 35 years old, and approximately 5-feet-8-inches tall and 160 pounds. When the shooting occurred, he was wearing a hoodie a jeans and had long dreadlocks.
Carlos Lopez was near the Jacksonville Mall parking lot Tuesday night when he heard the shots.
"All of a sudden we hear 'Pop! Pop! Pop! Pop! Pop! Pop! Pop! Pop," Lopez told NewsChannel 12.
Lopez said he saw an individual run across the parking lot, across the street and into the Plaza Shopping Center parking lot, then took off running toward Marine Boulevard.
JPD has collected evidence and interviewed witnesses and is still seeking to locate the shooter.
