Home engulfed in flames overnight

NEW BERN, Craven County - A house, on the outskirts of downtown New Bern went up in flames early Friday morning, according to emergency officials on the scene.

The fire was reported at about 2:30 a.m. on B Street in New Bern. An official with the New Bern Police Department said the home was abandoned. Since there was no one there at the time, there were no injuries reported.

When officials first arrived, they told our crew the home was fully engulfed with flames.

Power crews were headed to the area to examine nearby power lines as a precaution. Fire investigators were expected to determine the cause of the fire as the morning continued.

If you travel in that area during your morning commute, be mindful the smoke may continue to linger in the humid air.
