BEAUFORT, Carteret County - Fake $100 bills are being passed in Carteret County and authorities are warning businesses and individuals to be on the lookout.

Carteret County Sheriff's Office detectives say poor $100 bill replicas with the stamp "For Motion Picture Use Only" have been used at a grocery store, and ABC store and a convenience store in Newport.

CCSO notes that other denominations, including $10s $20s and $50s can also be used. The fake money can be easily purchased through sites like Amazon or eBay and do not qualify as counterfeit because they have the warnings on the front and back of the bills.

The individuals who used the bills, CCSO says, "were unsuspecting victims who received the money elsewhere."
