Havelock police chief to resign, return to Miami

HAVELOCK, Craven County - Havelock Police Chief David Magnusson will resign later this year and leaving the policing field after more than three decades in law enforcement, Havelock officials said.

The announcement was made Thursday that Magnusson would end his tenure with the Havelock PD on Nov. 25 and return to Miami to spend more time with his family.

Town of Havelock spokesperson Lauren Wargo said Magnusson presided over the department during a time when Havelock was recognized as one of the top five safest cities in the state. He was also responsible for starting the Havelock chapter of the "Do the Right Thing Program," which recognizes positivity in local schools.

Magnusson has served as Havelock's police chief for the past three years.
