GREENVILLE, Pitt County - Pitt County Schools held a groundbreaking ceremony for the addition of a multipurpose room for Elmhurst Elementary School on Wednesday at the school.

The multipurpose room is scheduled to open in the fall of 2017. The neighborhood school currently serves 406 students and utilizes the outside areas to hold gym glass since the school does not currently have a gymnasium.

Site improvements for the project include sidewalks as necessary for access from the new area, and the replacement of a portion of the storm drain system to allow for the water displacement from the new structure.
