Greenville PD investigating after shooting leaves one dead, two wounded
GREENVILLE, Pitt County - A man was shot to death in the parking lot of a housing complex in Greenville and two others were wounded, police say.
Greenville Police spokesperson Kristen Hunter said the incident happened around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday at the 100 block of River Bluff Road. Police were called for shots fired in the parking lot. When they arrived, they found multiple people shot.
GPD reports Rufus Gregory Stancil, 26, of Greenville had been shot and killed. Two others - later identified as 27-year-old Jemel Williams and 26-year-old Deshown Davis - were transported to Vidant Medical Center with gunshot wounds. They remained hospitalized as of Wednesday afternoon.
Police say 10 shots were fired during the altercation, though one nearby resident said he didn't hear anything until emergency responders began showing up.
"I didn't really hear any shooting ... that's what's so unusual about it," Al Howard, a River Edge resident told NewsChannel 12. "I usually get up around 12 o'clock and go in the house. Well as soon as I did, that's when I heard all the ambulances."
Greenville Police Chief Mark Holtzman said Wednesday that residents in the area around where the shooting occurred can expect to see an increased police presence in the days ahead as investigators work to develop leads and interview potential witnesses.
"It is of the upmost important to me as a chief to do everything we can to protect this neighborhood and every neighborhood," he said.
Greenville PD has not announced any suspects or arrests yet in the case.
