Greenville Police alerting citizens to possible scam

GREENVILLE, Pitt County - The Greenville Police Department is alerting citizens to a possible scam hours after the Pitt County Sheriff's Office did the same.

We told you about the scam where callers are impersonating Pitt County Sheriff's deputies and trying to scam residents out of money. Now, GPD is warning residents about a solicitor who's been going door to door with a scam.

According to GPD Public Information Officer Kristen Hunter, a solicitor will be posing as a city employee and asking for money to assist a Greenville employee who is ill. GPD said if you run into this person, avoid them. Officials are not conducting this kind of drive.

An investigation into the matter continues.
