Greenville man arrested after weekend stabbing, shooting

GREENVILLE, Pitt County - A suspect in a stabbing and shooting incident in Greenville was arrested after a brief foot chase on Monday.

Tyrell Best, 33, was arrested not far from the H&K Mart on West 5th Street on Monday shortly after 6 p.m. He was charged with two counts of attempted murder, one count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill/inflict serious injury, one count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, one count of discharge weapon occupied vehicle, one count possession of a firearm by a felon, one count of carry concealed weapon and one count resist, delay and obstruct a police officer.

Best was seen leaving the H&K Mart when police spotted him. During the chase, Best tried to get rid of a gun, which discharged one round when it hit the ground. Nobody was hurt.

Best was being questioned before being transferred to the Pitt County Detention Center. He was a suspect in a shooting at the in an incident that happened Sunday morning where one person was stabbed three times but suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Another victim who saw the attack had the vehicle they were in shot at by the suspect. They did not sustain any injuries.

Police are continuing to investigate in an attempt to identify the suspect.
