Greenville, Kinston mayors thrilled at opportunity to showcase area
KINSTON, Lenoir County - Eastern North Carolina got the chance to show a little more than two dozen mayors what it's like to live in our part of the state.
The N.C. Metro Mayers Coalition was held Thursday in Greenville. Mayors from places like Raleigh, Charlotte, Winston-Salem, Wilmington and Asheville, among others, were in attendance. Discussions were held about transportation, parks and economic development projects. The mayors got a tour of several locations in Greenville before heading to Kinston to do the same.
Mayors from across our state say working together can help them build better partnerships and improve services for the people who live in their cities.
"I invited them down here to get to know Eastern North Carolina so they can get to know our economy," Greenville Mayor Allen Thomas said.
The mayors gathered at Mother Earth Brewery Thursday evening to close out a busy day. Kinston Mayor BJ Murphy said it was a big day for his city.
"I have never known the metro mayors to come to Eastern North Carolina and especially not Kinston," Murphy said. "So this is an historic day for Kinston."
