Greenville interim mayor could be sworn in by tonight

GREENVILLE, Pitt County - An interim mayor could be appointed in Greenville Thursday evening at a scheduled city council meeting, according to city leaders.

if an official appointment is made the newly appointed mayor will take the oath of office right then and there at the meeting tonight.

Additionally, official election filing begins Friday morning for upcoming state elections, including mayor.

Former Greenville mayor, Allen Thomas, announced he was stepping down in the spring to take a top job at the North Carolina Global TransPark in Kinston.

Greenville Council Member At-Large Calvin Mercer and Councilman P.J. Connelly have both announced intentions to be a candidate for Mayor of the City of Greenville.
