Greene County man turns self in for fatally shooting girlfriend

WALSTONBURG, Greene County - A Greene County man turned himself in to police Sunday night, telling authorities he shot and killed his girlfriend.

The Greene County Sheriff's Office reported that 63-year-old James Williams of Walstonburg stopped deputies who were responding to a call for a person shot at 103 Bel Air Drive. Williams said he had shot his girlfriend and was turning himself in, GCSO reported.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they found 44-year-old Jacqueline Winstead, of Elm City, fatally shot.

Williams was booked into jail, charged with an open count of murder. He has no bond and is scheduled to appear in court in Green County on June 9.
