Gov. Cooper meets with Kinston officials about hurricane funding, concerns
KINSTON, Lenoir County - Gov. Roy Cooper spoke with Kinston officials Tuesday about their concerns with disaster management relief post Hurricane Matthew.
The governor spent about 40 minutes at the Woodman Center in Kinston speaking with local officials. Those officials included ones from Lenoir County and the City of Kisnton. They discussed the progress with relief after Hurricane Matthew, mitigation plans for future disasters and overall emergency management when flooding hits. "We want to bring in the Army Corp of Engineers so that we can use the mapping that is already there and put together a long term plan to try to reduce flooding in eastern North Carolina for decades to come," Cooper said.
The officials gave feedback and reports about what goes on when disaster hits. Cooper said he and his team are working toward addressing those concerns.
