Ghent Mardi Gras parade being held in New Bern this weekend

NEW BERN, Craven County - The Ghent community will hold its third annual Mardi Gras parade on Saturday.

The parade go from 2-5 p.m. and will start on Spencer Avenue to Sixth Street before coming back around.

The parade was started by a neighbor as a fun community event, according to parade chair Pam Sewell. Although the big Mardi Gras celebration in New Orleans is held on a Tuesday, Sewell said they chose to do it on the following Saturday to make it family friendly.

"It's a family event, the kids are out of school, mom and dad are home from work. It's not the typical Mardi Gras. Because of the time of the year we use that title," Sewell said.
