Geter sentenced for role in theft of lawn mower, pumpkins
NEW BERN, Craven County - Convicted burglar Tommy Wayne Geter was sentenced on Tuesday to 7 1/2 to 10 years in prison, the District Attorney's Office said Tuesday.
Geter was sentenced following a guilty plea for his role in breaking into a Tractor Supply Company location in New Bern last October. He pleaded guilty to felony breaking and entering, felony larceny and his sentence was based in part on his status as a habitual felon.
According to District 3B District Attorney Scott Thomas' office, Geter stole a push lawnmower and several pumpkins. He was found with drugs and drug paraphernalia on him by authorities.
The next month, authorities say Geter broke in to the garage of his next door neighbor, Trent Woods, stealing several power tools and gas cans and then placing them in the garage of the home where he lived with his grandparents.
Geter has prior felony convictions for larceny, obtaining property by false pretenses, taking indecent liberties with a child, and larceny of a motor vehicle.
