Get a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the technology supporting Tryon Palace
NEW BERN, Craven County - Tryon Palace has many displays and exhibitions that teach us about the history of North Carolina - and a ton goes in behind the scenes to making that all happen.
Rob Jones, the multimedia technician at the palace said it is all about keeping it as authentic an experience as possible.
"When you see this technology it looks great, but when you see how it actually operates in our server rooms in our networking, it just blows your mind," he said. "It happens with the program on the back side but the program changes depending in the environment or the guest input, it is completely immersive interactive technology."
The palace is now offering a behind-the-scenes tour each Tuesday to get a glimpse into Jones' world.
"It doesn't demystify it since everything is run through the tablet it is still interactive and you are still learning as you are playing," visitor Carolyn Smith said. "Knowing all the computers are in one room, I don't think that takes away from the experience you have here."
For Jones, that's the top priority.
"What great technology is going to make this exhibit that much better?" he asked rhetorically.
More information about the behind the scenes tours is available on the Tryon Palace website.
