Multiple departments keep guest house fire from spreading
MERRITT, Pamlico County - A family of seven is temporarily homeless after an early morning fire damaged a guest house in Pamlico County that was attached to a two-story home along Alligator Creek Road.
Pamlico County Fire Marshal Chris Murray said officials were alerted to the fire at 748 Alligator Creek Road in Merritt around 3:09 a.m. Eleven different agencies responded to the fight the flames and aid in the situation.
Crews battled the flames for nearly three hours and managed to keep the fire from spreading to the main house. However, the family who lives there is having to stay with other family members while clean up from the damage can be conducted.
No injuries were reported as a result of the blaze, Murray said.
There is no criminal activity suspected in the cause of the fire, which remains under investigation, Murray said.
