Former Jacksonville, Kinston, Parrott basketball coach heading to Wilmington

KINSTON, Lenoir County - Wells Gulledge, who led Kinston High School's basketball program to three state titles, will take over as head coach of the program at Ashley High School in Wilmington.

The Star News in Wilmington reports Gulledge will take over for Web Guthrie, who is stepping down at Ashley after three seasons. The Screaming Eagles were 16-10 last season and claimed a share of the Mideastern Conference title for the first time in school history.

Gulledge coached at Jacksonville High School then took over at Kinston, where he led the Vikings to state titles in 2008, 2010 and 2012. He had a record of 320-88 when he chose to step down for a non-teaching job in Greenville. He returned to coaching in 2014 at Parrott Academy, where he went 37-37 in three seasons.
