Fire in Cape Carteret leaves home destroyed

CAPE CARTERET, Carteret County - A home in Cape Carteret was destroyed on Wednesday after a fire caused extreme damage to the residence and all of its contents.

At 7:58 a.m. on October 25, The Western Carteret Fire & EMS Department was dispatched to a dwelling on fire on Hunter Brown Rd. in Cape Carteret.

Upon arrival, units found a one story wood frame dwelling 30 percent involved with heavy fire showing from the front of the home, officials confirm.

The fire was controlled in approximately 30 minutes. Officials said no one was at the home at the time of the fire and there were no injuries.

Emerald Isle Fire Department, Swansboro Fire Department and Broad & Gales Creek Volunteer Fire Department also assisted in putting out the flames.

There was extreme damage to the dwelling as well as the contents. Officials said the structure is a "total loss."

The cause of the fire is still undetermined.
