Fire destroys one home, damages another in Tyrrell County

A fire in Tyrrell County on Friday destroyed one home and damaged another,

Tyrrell County Sheriff Darryl Liverman said in an email a call came in at 9 p.m. Friday of a house fire at 611 Jerry Post Office Rd. Crews from Tyrrell Fire, Washington Fire, Tyrrell EMS and Tyrrell County Sheriff's Office responded to the call with Creswell Fire Department providing mutual aid.

Liverman said the owner of the home, David Swain, woke up to smoke and was able to get out of the house. The mobile home beside the destroyed home had heat damage. Crews were on the scene for about five hours battling the fire.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
