NEW BERN, Craven County - If you are nursing dreams of owning your own business, there's a new venture in New Bern which will open its doors soon to help you achieve that goal.

It's a new facility that will soon open up in downtown New Bern. It can be used for freelancers, consultants, start-up businesses and home business owners. It aims to bring together individuals who want to take their small business to the next level but can't muster the capital required just yet.

Von Lewis, who runs social media start-up @VonSocial, uses knowledge from starting his own company and his 10 years of experience as a social media entrepreneur to help other business owners. He said many of his clients share familiar challenges.

"Before, I was an entertainer and an actor," said Lewis. "I have now moved back to New Bern, I've picked up doing my own business. We do Facebook marketing, online marketing ads and content."

"They maybe haven't gone through the steps of getting an exterior office or a physical location and so we really don't know where to start sometimes."

That's why he can't wait for the Entrepreneur Center of Craven County, which will be in the O'Marks Building on Middle Street, to open its doors. Founder Dan Spangler is trying to make that happen. Crews are putting in the finishing touches, setting up lights and office furniture. There will be cubicles, lockers and desktop computers ... and a lot of motivation.

"If you are an enterpreneur and looking for a place to work that is a little quieter than a coffee shop and a little bit more professional that's what a coworking space is," Spangler said.

"It's a tough jump to go from a home business to a full operating business. Here you have an office and everything and all the overhead that goes with that. So we are trying to step in between and help them out."

Spangler also said a space like this is an incentive for large companies that can hire staff in smaller cities and towns or send them down without needing a fully operational office. The Entrepreneur Center of Craven County will have an open house this Friday from 5-8 p.m.
