DWI arrest leads to discovery of drugs after vehicle search
A DWI arrest in Kinston on Wednesday led to the discovery of marijuana and other items being found.
Kinston Police said Jonathan Deandrea Sims, 23 of 2486 Stratford Drive in Kinston, was arrested for DWI after officials responded to an accident at Hull Road and Vernon Avenue. An officer noticed Sims, who was driving a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu, appeared to be impaired. A field sobriety test was administered and Sims was arrested.
During a search of Sims' vehicle, 96 grams of marijuana, four Xanax pills, a book bag, electronic scale, cigar and glass jar were discovered. Sims' vehicle was then seized.
Sims is facing charges of possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver Schedule VI, maintaining a vehicle for controlled substance, simple possession of Schedule IV, DWI and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was placed in the Lenoir County Jail under a $5,500 secured bond.
