KENANSVILLE, Duplin County - An afternoon fire burned around 20 acres of privately owned forest land on Friday in Duplin County.

Kenansville Deputy Fire Chief Danny Chambers told NewsChannel 12 the fire was reported at around 2:30 p.m. on Friday. The fire was off West Best Rd. near the Duplin County Airport.

Officials believe the fire started when a controlled burn got out of control. There were no injuries and no structures were damaged. The N.C. Forestry Service provided assisted assistance in fighting the fire, along with five fire departments, by providing a single-engine spotter plane and two plows to contain the fire.

The fire is considered under control and contained. Crews were still on the scene mopping up hot spots.
