Disaster declaration to provide more funding for hurricane recovery in Windsor
WINDSOR< Bertie County - Windsor is getting more aid to help in the recovery from Hurricane Matthew, thanks to a state disaster declaration signed Wednesday by Gov. Roy Cooper.
The declaration frees up state funding to help in removing debris, providing emergency protective services and repairing local roads and bridges. The funds will pay for 75 percent of the cost of the emergency protective measures.
Windsor, a town of about 3,700, has spent nearly $89,000 in clean up efforts so far, the Governor's Office reports.
"Bertie County was still recovering from Tropical Storm Julia when Hurricane Matthew came through," Cooper said in a press release. "The people of Windsor have endured a tremendous amount of hardship and they need our help recovering."
