Danger on the roads, at least 14 hurt after storms in N.C.
KEENER, Sampson County - Danger loomed for morning commuters in parts of Sampson and Duplin counties Tuesday morning all because of a strong storm system that struck overnight, according to area emergency officials.
According to damage reports by the National Weather Service, in Sampson County there are numerous reports of trees down in and around the town of Keener. Several barns along Highway 701 and Keener Road are reportedly damaged or destroyed along with about 10 homes.
Emergency management officials reported 14 people were injured during the storms. We know two people were injured after a tree fell onto a car on Hobbton Highway near Clinton. All of the injuries were expected to be non-life threatening.
By noon, most of the power had been restored but Duke Energy and other crews were still working to restore power to the entire impacted area. Officials were also out at first light to assess the damages.
