NEW BERN, Craven County - This week, Craven County school leaders are making it their mission to make sure students and their local schools get the attention and resources they need to be successful.

Over the next few days, principals from every school in Craven County will come in and present their improvement plans to the Board of Education.

Each of the schools gathered data, looking at things like test scores and surveys from both teachers and parents to get a better understanding of the overall picture. The improvement plans give education leaders an idea of what's working and what's not.

"O talked about our teacher working conditions survey," Catherine Alligood of A. H. Bangert Elementary School said. "Well that is two years old now and they do it every two years, but last year when I got there, we looked at the data and we examined it and there are things that we addressed."

Superintendent Dr. Megan Doyle said she wants to not only hear what strategies school leaders have to improve, but also make sure they are actually doing it.

"Part of my evaluations of our principals is what's going on with your school improvement plan," Doyle said. "Talk to me about strategies you've implemented, what's working, what's not working -- let's pull your school improvement minutes."

If you're looking for more information about the improvement plan for your child's school, all of the presentations are posted on the Craven County Board of Education website.
