NEW BERN, Craven County - Cowell's Cleaners is accepting ball gown donations for military spouses.

The donated dresses will be given away in an event this Sunday, October 1, called Operation Ball Gown.

Active duty marines and spouses of marines are invited to choose one gown out of the collection. The gowns come at a first come first serve basis.

Cowell's Cleaners has co-sponsored Operation Ball Gown for the last five years. Gloria Cowell, co-owner of the dry cleaner, said it's their way of giving back to their community.

"It's just a small way that we can say thank you by donating these back to these families," she said. "It means so much because otherwise they probably couldn't afford a gown like they are going to be given for free and it just takes so much pressure off."

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the PX on MCAS Cherry Point. Gowns will be collected until October 1, the day of the event.
