Coples returns to Kinston, honors individuals before football camp

Colonel Tyson, left, and Ronnie Battle

KINSTON, Lenoir County - It's called the Coples Foundation and it was created in Kinston before Quinton Coples even touched the field on the NFL level.

Each year, Coples holds a weekend event in Kinston which includes a free football camp for children and many other community events. Friday's kickoff event was designated to honor two leaders in the area, both of which had major impacts on Coples' life. Colonel Tyson taught Coples back in high school and became a mentor for the budding star. Ronnie Battle, better known for his enormous Kinston sports reputation, was Coples' high school PE teacher. Both gentlemen said they were not expecting the awards but were extremely honored and humbled. The camp kicks off Saturday morning at 8. Click the video above to learn more about Friday's event.
