Coast Guard medevacs 69-year-old woman from Ocracoke Island
OCRACOKE, Hyde County - A 69-year-old woman who was suffering stroke-like symptoms was medevaced from Ocracoke Island on Tuesday by the Coast Guard.
The 5th Distric Command Center in Portsmouth, Va. was notified by the Hyde County Sheriff's Office that a woman at Ocracoke Health Center was suffering the stroke-like symptoms. A helicopter from Elizabeth City was launched at 11:25 a.m. and arrived at 12:05 p.m. The woman was hoisted up and transported Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Va. Her current status is unknown. "The crew performed with excellence today," said Lt. Tyler Monez, aircraft commander of the Jayhawk helicopter crew. "Although we faced inclement weather, our training and risk management enabled us to reach the patient quickly and deliver her to higher care."
