Chocowinity town commissioner John Curtis Jenkins Jr. has resigned.

Officials have confirmed that Jenkins resigned from his position early Wednesday morning. He turned in his resignation to the acting town attorney Amanda McKinney.

Jenkins has a history with the law.

Just last week, Jenkins turned himself in for felony stalking charges. Last month, Jenkins was thrown in jail after turning himself in for charges of strangulation and second-degree kidnapping. In November 2017, he was facing charges of assault on a child under 12. Earlier that same month, he and his brother were accused of assaulting a 51-year-old man. In August of 2016, he was arrested for allegedly assaulting a female.
