Cherry Point marines take on Battle Challenge

CHERRY POINT, Craven Co. - HAVELOCK, Craven County - The marines at Cherry Point said the Battle Challenge course wasn't as easy as they thought it would be.

"It winded me pretty quickly," Corporal Cameron Johnson said.

It's a nine point course beginning with a rifle competition and ending with a dead-body challenge, where marines had to drag a 250 pound dummy marine to the finish line. This the first year the Battle Challenge was hosted at Cherry Point. The Marine Corps Community Services department and The Military Benefit Association both sponsored the event.

The winners of the competitions will be announced next week. Cash prizes will be awarded to those winners, with a $1,000 award for first place.
