Cats shot with crossbow near Jack Amyette Park in Onslow County

JACKSONVILLE, Onslow County - Three cats were shot with a crossbow right behind a woman's home across the road from Jack Amyette Park in Onslow County -- only one survived.

Colleen Funderburk says the incident started on Monday morning, when she found a cat on her front porch with an arrow still stuck in its body. After the discovery, a neighbor told Funderburk that she, too, had found two other cats dead in the alley near their home. They appeared to be shot with the same arrows.

"At first he seemed like he was in shock," Funderburk said. "As he was trying to move around to eat something, he bent his head down and he couldn't eat because the arrow would bump it further into his cheek."

Funderburk called 911 and Animal Control soon arrived on the scene to catch the injured cat.

"He would just kind of sit there, like, 'who's gonna help me, what's gonna happen,'" Funderburk said.

The cat is now recovering at the Onslow County Animal Control facility. Neighbors are worried that the person responsible is still at large.
