Carteret County man sentenced for 2nd degree murder to be paroled next month

BEAUFORT, Carteret County - A Carteret County man imprisoned for second degree murder and burglary charges is set to be paroled.

William Freuler, 73, who was convicted in August 1987, is currently serving two life sentences in the Pasquotank Correctional Institution, but has been approved for parole. He will be let out on June 30.

The state's current sentencing law, Structured Sentencing, eliminates parole for crimes committed on or after October 1, 1994. However, the Commission has the responsibility of paroling offenders who were sentenced under previous sentencing guidelines.
