Carteret Co. Sheriff's Office issues missing person report for man lost at sea

BEAUFORT, Carteret County - The Carteret County Sheriff's Office has issued a missing person report for a Tarboro man lost at sea on Sept. 8.

In a press release, James Russell Wells was last seen on Sept. 8 at around 2 p.m. when the 19-foot skiff he was aboard capsized in Bogue Inlet, around a mile off the Cape Carteret shore. NewsChannel 12's Ashley Boles spoke with the lone survivor of the incident.

Wells, who is from Tarboro, was one of three on board when the incident happened. One person died. The U.S. Coast Guard is investigating and Wells has been entered into NCIC, which is used to help find missing people in other parts of the country.

Wells has tattoos of women on both forearms and a midline-chest incision scar from surgery. He wears dentures and had vision correction surgery, meaning he no longer wears glasses.
