Car dealership wishes to change ordinance
NEW BERN, Craven County - An attempt to upgrade Cella Ford was rejected by New Bern's Board of Adjustments Monday.
At the aldermen's meeting on Tuesday, Alderman Jeffrey Odham asked to form a subcommittee to take a second look. The owner of Cella Ford would like to use aluminum composite material for the new building, but the ordinance says buildings on Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. must be sheathed in wood siding, stone, brick or other masonry materials.
New Bern Director of Development Services Jeff Rugieri said these laws were put in place before he began working there in order to form a certain uniformity and style on the stretch.
The committees will hold a stakeholder meeting with land and business owners on that stretch to talk about changes that could benefit that corridor.
