Camp Lejeune mother named Marine Spouse of the Year
JACKSONVILLE, Onslow County —
A Camp Lejeune wife and mother has received a special honor from Military Spouse magazine.
Jolynn Lee has been named the 2018 Armed Forces Insurance Marine Spouse of the Year. She is now in the running for the overall award as the Military Spouse of the Year.
According to a press release, Lee was nominated for her work with family readiness program, LINKs (Lifestyle, Information, Network, and Knowledge) and to a deeper level, her involvement with REBOOT Combat Recovery at Camp Lejeune. Below is a press release with more on her selection. You can also check out her bio by clicking here.
Jolynn Lee is no stranger to military life having been married to a Marine for over 30 years. And in that time, she has been an active participant in supporting the military community through various volunteer activities which resulted in her recently being named the 2018 Armed Forces Insurance Marine Spouse of the Year®. Lee is currently stationed at Camp Lejeune near Jacksonville, NC
Now in its eleventh year honoring the dedication and sacrifices of our nation’s more than 1.1 million military spouses, Military Spouse magazine is proud to partner with Armed Forces Insurance to recognize military spouses from all six branches of the Armed Forces who are making a difference in their communities.
Lee was nominated for her work with family readiness program, LINKs (Lifestyle, Information, Network, and Knowledge) and to a deeper level, her involvement with REBOOT Combat Recovery at Camp Lejeune. She currently serves as volunteer co-administrator and co-facilitator for REBOOT, a support course for military personnel, veterans and families struggling with PTSD. Her passion for assisting those who have struggled with mental, emotional or behavioral problems began as a special education teacher. That coupled with her experiences in military life prompted her to complete her graduate degree in Human Services Counseling.
“When the nomination email came through I initially just read it and almost chose not to respond,” says Lee. “I live in a community of absolutely amazing military spouses who are gifted, talented, innovative, inspired individuals who do phenomenal things every single day with no expectation of return or kudos. I have said at every stage of this adventure – win, lose or draw I am walking away with such a wonderful experience and am privileged to be able to continue to share the message of REBOOT with a broader audience. Here at REBOOT Camp Lejeune we say, hurt people, hurt people but healed people heal other people, trauma hurts, but REBOOT heals!”
As a branch winner, Lee is now a step closer to being named the overall 2018 Armed Forces Insurance Military Spouse of the Year®. (MSOY). Nominations from non-family members were accepted January 2-31 across all six branches of the United States military. Through a combination of popular vote and judging panels, the nominees have been whittled down to branch winners and after a final vote conducted on March 2 the overall winner will be announced at the USO of Metropolitan Washington-Baltimore (USO-Metro) Annual Awards Dinner in Washington D.C. on May 10.
“Armed Forces Insurance (AFI) has been a part of the Military Spouse of the Year® program for nine years and we congratulate the amazing branch winners who are working tirelessly to make their communities better,” said Lori Simmons, Chief Marketing Officer and Vice President, Marketing & Corporate Communications at Armed Forces Insurance. “Having met and learned the inspiring stories of so many of these amazing women and men, I can tell you that it is an honor for AFI to help share their stories so they can make an even bigger impact.”
