ATLANTIC BEACH, Carteret County - Labor Day weekend is here and businesses along the Crystal Coast are gearing up for a big one.

"This is the big hurrah for us, the last big weekend of the summer," said John Morrow, manager of the Atlantic Beach Surf Shop. "People are getting down here, they're going to want to hang out for the last time." Morrow's business, like many others, are preparing for the weekend with a sale on all summer clothes to make way for the fall and winter stock. Patricia Davis, who owns Davis Swimwear, agrees the weekend is set to be a big one. "We're expecting a big weekend, the weather is gorgeous, the sun is shining and the season has been the best ever. God has really blessed us," Davis said. Morrow said Saturday would be the best time to come because it'll be a little less busy. After working in Atlantic Beach for many years, he notices the traffic over Labor Day weekend is often dictated by East Carolina University football games. "We know that Saturday is good, but when Sunday hits, people come down that night or that morning because they still have two days left," Morrow said. Davis, who's operated her business for 67 years with her husband, said if you've never been to Atlantic Beach, this is the weekend to check it out. "You need to come and try it out. The circle is changing, its bigger and better than its ever been before and its getting even better," Davis said.
