WINTERVILLE, Pitt County - The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Coastal Plain opened a brand new Pre-Teen Center at their Jack Minges Unit on Wednesday.

The newly renovated space will meet the needs of the Club's middle school population and will serve approximately 40 more youth per day thanks to the expansion made possible by the Green Family Foundation.

"Although I love the old preteen center, I really love this one because we get to have more space. There is a bathroom in here so we won't have to walk way over there and we probably get to eat in here," club member Mackenzie Allen said.

The construction and renovation of an existing locker room and storage space took place in three phases. Phase 1 consisted of the installation of floors, walls, ceiling, electric and plumbing. Phase 2 began with outfitting the Pre-Teen Center with seating, tables and countertops.

The final phase of the project will consist of purchasing the technology necessary to complete the tech lounge. Audio and visual equipment purchased will enhance current programs and also support the arts, including drama and digital art.

The mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of the Coastal Plain is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
