Body of Jacksonville female identified
JACKSONVILLE, Onslow County —
The body of a female discovered in Jacksonville two weeks ago has been identified.
On December 31, 2017, the Onslow County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a body being discovered in the Thomas Humphrey Road area of Jacksonville. An autopsy conducted on January 8 revealed that the woman was identified as Shelby Brianne Brown.
The 22-year-old was first reported missing on January 3, 2018 by her mother. It was reported that Shelby was last seen on December 3, 2017 in Sneads Ferry and was possibly in the Jacksonville area on the night of December 4, 2017.
A cause of death has been determined, but is not being released to the public pending the active criminal investigation.
The case is being investigated as a homicide.
