Carteret Co. Health Dept. reopening delayed until Monday after bed bug scare
MOREHEAD CITY, Carteret County - The Carteret County Health Department remained closed on Friday after it had to close early Thursday because bed bug specimens were found.
A press release said the bed bugs were found in the waiting area and in an office at the Health Department, located at 3820 Bridges St., Suite A in Morehead City.
Bed Bugs are small, reddish-brown insects that live by feeding off the blood of humans. They do not transmit disease.
A pest control specialist was brought in and treated the area after the location closed around 4 p.m. It was initially scheduled to reopen at its normal 8 a.m. time on Friday, but health officials delayed the reopening until Monday, May 15, to allow "ample opportunity to ensure extermination."
