Beaufort County announces new emergency services director

Beaufort County - Beaufort County announced Carnie E. Hedgepeth as the new emergency services director for the county.

This is a new position created by the county. It will consolidate and oversee Emergency Medical Services, Emergency Management, Fire Marshal and Animal Control under an Emergency Services Department.

Prior to this position, Hedgepeth spent his entire professional career working in fire and EMS services and holds multiple State and National Fire Academy certifications.

Hedgepeth most recently served as the Director of Fire and Emergency Services Training at Pitt Community College and has previously worked as a Fire and Rescue Training Specialist for the NC Office of State Fire Marshal. He also served as the Fire/EMS Chief for the Town of Winterville, as the Deputy Fire/EMS Chief for Morehead City and as an EMS Specialist for the City of Greenville Fire/Rescue Department.

County Manager Brian Alligood said the county is excited to have Hedgepeth.

"We are very pleased to have Carnie join the County in the role of Emergency Services Director. He is extremely knowledgeable of the many aspects encompassing the emergency services field and his broad base of experience and education will serve him well in this new position," Alligood said.

Hedgepeth will begin his new role with the county on April 3.
