Bath Towne After Dark showcases history of oldest town in NC

BATH, Beaufort County - If you wander through the streets of Bath this weekend, you may see some faces from the past.

Bath Towne After Dark is a chance to learn more about the history of the oldest town in the state. As you walk through Historic Bath, you'll be able to see a plethora of different characters, such as a colonial woman who may have lived in one of the houses in the town.

"You never know what you're going to see coming through the streets of Bath," said Gavin Boyd, who's dressed as a pirate for the event.

"History is important in this town because of all the important historical events," Boyd said. "We have Blackbeard, the devil, and so many other historical features."

"I think sometimes when people think about Bath they get a little one track minded, you think only colonial things happened here and this program is great because it takes you through every time period," said Erica Smith, assistant manager for Historic Bath and one of the actors in the performances.

While Boyd and Smith are part of the program, the stars are the students. They're the ones who have directed the show and are acting in it.

"I'm really excited to just perform in front of people because I love doing it so much and I'm a little nervous because I'm the first person and I don't want to mess it up," said Rebekah Jones, an actor in the performances.

"Our goal is to make history fun and exciting for everyone and this is a great opportunity," Smith said. "This gives people something different to see, it gives them something extra and we're really excited about it."

The event happens this Friday and Saturday. You can order tickets in advance or show up and buy them on the day of the event. Tickets can be purchased at the Historic Bath Visitor Center, $12 for adults, $8 for students, kids 5 and under are free. All proceeds will go to the Historic Town of Bath to help bring more events like this to the area.

Tickets for the evening tours can be purchased in advance, or the night of the event. Tour times are 6, 6:15, 6:30, 6:45, 7, 7:15, 7:30, 7:45 p.m. and the last tour will leave at 8 p.m. Tour groups will be limited to 20 people.
